Detailed ep summary Kill Ari 1 (SPOILERS!!)

I have posted these on another NCIS board I'm on and people seem to find them handy so I thought I'd share them here too for anyone who may have missed the eps or are in another country and don't get to see them yet. Its a detailed account of the episode (three pages worth), so if you don't want to know pretty much every single detail, please don't look! :)


3.1 Kill Ari Part 1

It starts off with Ari taking the elevator to the roof. They show the end of Twilight from Ari’s perspective. Ari takes aim at Gibbs, then McGee. He shoots but McGee ducks behind the car as someone else closer to him shoots at him. Ari looks surprised, then shoots McGee’s computer. He aims at Gibbs again, then Kate, then stays with Kate and we see her talking to Gibbs and Tony, then he shoots her. I want to be really clear about this. What we see is Ari with a rifle, the crosshairs of the rifle with Kate as the target, Ari pulling the trigger, Kate falling down, and Ari saying “Sorry Kaitlin” in an entirely unapologetic way.

Ducky walks into dark Autopsy, sad music plays. He takes off his hat and coat and walks over to the body bag on the table, unzipps it, turns on the light. Sad music. Ducky says “Oh Kaitlin. I am so sorry.”

Cut to rain outside Gibbs’ window. Gibbs looking sad, staring at Kate’s desk. He imagines Kate, she is angry with him. Tony and McGee come in with the shells from Ari’s rifle. They talk about what they found in the sniper’s nest. Tony says he’ll go back, and flinches as he thinks Gibbs is about to smack him. Instead he says, “Tony—you’re soaking wet. Go put some dry clothes on.” More sad music. Tony and McGee talk about the bullets, which leads to Tony asking if he’d seen Kate, McGee said no he didn’t want to, and Tony explains that her head was intact. Then he gets really graphic and gets angry as he keeps talking. He and McGee both sound like they’re fighting back tears. McGee says “Tony. Please.” Tony says “Sorry, kid.” Tony theorizes Ari aimed at Gibbs and missed, hitting Kate. Gibbs says they were standing still and there was no wind. McGee points out Ari had “a thing” for Kate, which makes Tony mad because he never knew that. Gibbs calls McGee Tim. He figures out Ari shot at McGee twice. Tony starts being mean to McGee again, asking why Ari didn’t shoot him instead. Gibbs says he’s going for coffee. “Can I get you boys anything?” They say no, looking confused, and Gibbs pats Tony on the back as he leaves.
McGee: He called me Tim.
Tony: He patted me on the back.
McGee: Its kinda nice.
Tony: Nice? I don’t want nice. He’s not Gibbs if he’s nice.

In her lab, Abby cries as she looks at the picture Kate drew of her as a bat. She imagines Kate as a Goth, they talk about their happy times together. Abby thinks about Kate’s tattoo and how Ducky will see it when he does the autopsy, and she laughs. Tony comes in. He tells her Gibbs is being nice. She says Gibbs is always nice. Tony hands over the evidence, then they get into an argument about the bullets. Abby is being overly touchy. Tony stays calm and talks very quietly, looking down the whole time. Abby starts to cry and hugs Tony.
Abby: Tony. I’m gonna miss her.
Tony: Me too.
The scene ends with the two of them in the crosshairs of a rifle.

Gibbs walking in the rain with coffee, sees Abby’s window get shot, drops coffee and runs. In the lab, Tony is on top of Abby and asks if she’s ok. They take cover and Tony pulls his gun. Abby comments about Tony’s nice “booty.” Gibbs comes in. They show Ari in a car with a rifle. He pops out a shell casing and throws it out the window. There is a cute little moment in the lab with Gibbs and Abby. “I’ll keep you safe, Abby. I promise.” He kisses her head.

Ducky in Autopsy with Kate. Dead Kate talks to him. She regrets not killing Ari when she had the chance. Gibbs comes in. He tells him about Ari shooting the Abby’s window. Ducky pours them drinks, and they talk about losing men in combat and how this is different.

In the lab, Abby in her jumpsuit is inspecting the car McGee was hiding behind. McGee check’s out Abby’s butt. Gibbs comes in, they talk about what they found. Tony comes in, tells them what he found, and tells Gibbs the director wants to see him in MTAC.
Abby: Why are you baiting Gibbs.
Tony: Trying to get him to stop being nice.
McGee: I like him nice.
Tony and Abby both hit McGee on the head.

In MTAC, Morrow says people don’t think the sniper was Ari. He has endorsed Gibbs’ recommendation to award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Kate. Morrow tells Gibbs he’s leaving for a job at Homeland Security and introduces the new Director, who has a really terrible hairstyle. Gibbs flashes back on getting it on with Shepard. They exchange pleasentries.

Shepard gives Gibbs a hard time about the case and tells him not to call her Jenn. Gibbs says he missed her, she makes mooney eyes at him. Gibbs leaves with Shepard and tells Tony no one is to leave the building and McGee is on protection detail for Abby. Tony grins as Gibbs leaves with Shepard, then imagines Kate in a Catholic school uniform and they talk about how Tony has a dirty mind. Ziva interupts Tony as he says out loud “I used to picture you naked.” He fumbles an explanation. Witty, sexy banter ensues. She says she’s looking for Gibbs and she’s there to stop him from kiling Ari.

Shepard and Gibbs in the basement (he doesn’t have 10 minutes to spare but he can sit and chat in the basement?). He mentions he burned a previous boat because he had named it after an ex-wife, Diane. Shepard says she’s doing an interview with CBS, Gibbs tells her she can’t because Ari is going after the women he works with.

Abby is playing slow sad music in the lab with McGee. She explains it’s a dirge for Kate, a New Orleans tradition (its cute they make Abby from NO because Pauley is).

More teasing with Ziva and Tony, Gibbs and Shepard come in, Gibbs asks who Ziva is, Tony asks who the red-head is (this is while the girls, who know eachother, are out of earshot). Tony checks out Shepard. Gibbs smacks Tony. Ziva talks to Ari on the phone, out of earshot of the others. The conversation implies she is on his side and that they are perhaps in a relationship. Both of those things are open to interpretation.

Ziva and Gibbs spar about Ari. She tries to convince him he never betrayed them and that he set up the terrorists and left breadcrumbs for the team to find them. Shepard sides with Ziva. Gibbs leaves, looking miffed.

Abby is testing rifles in the lab. McGee imagines Kate as a superhero vixen. Gibbs, in the elevator with Tony, tells him to tail Ziva.
Tony: If Ziva leads me to Ari?
Gibbs: Shadow him and call me.
Tony: So you can bring him in?
Gibbs: Yeah, so I can bring him in….[after elevator doors close and Tony is gone] . . . to Autopsy.

Abby shows Gibbs the rifles she’s testing, he picks one up and aims it (he was a Marine sniper). They talk about the weapons and amo. Abby confronts Gibbs about not telling her what he’s thinking. Gibbs tells her he used the exact same bullets when he was a sniper as the ones Ari is using. Then he tells her that the nickname for the Bravo-51 rifle is a “Kate.”

Gerald gets into his car, Ari grabs hin from the backseat.

Ducky puts Kate in a locker and says goodnight to her. Gerald calls him, and Ari tells Ducky he wants to prove to him that he didn’t kill Kate. He tells him to come alone, Ducky tries to get him to tell him over the phone. Ari says he’s never lied to Ducky and he agrees to meet with him.

Gibbs is imagining Kate again, the Shepard comes in. He asks her again not to do the interview with CBS. She says she’ll try to put it off. She leaves. Her hairstyle is still really, really bad. Shepard meets Ducky in the elevator. Gibbs hears him and runs after them but the elevator closes.

In the car, Ari asks if Gerald is back at work. He says he will be next week. Ducky arrives in a vintage Morgan. He tells Gerald to go to Ducky’s car. The last shot is Ducky in the crosshairs of a rifle.
